"No government should and could make Sinhalese the official language by trampling down the language rights of over a million of the permanent residents of the country. It cannot thrust to the wilderness the cherished language of these people. The doors of the public service should not be closed to the thousands of youth who did not know Sinhalese for no fault of thier own..."
